The Write Advice 137: GEORGE JOHNSTON


I believe that the serious novel must more and more become a question of self-examination because your self-examination becomes the only thing which you can give to someone which is not seen on the television screen night after night.  It is a form of confession.  I believe that it is only in the form of autobiography, of one kind or another, that the novel can survive.
